NTMWD Teaches Kids About One Water Through Science and Sports!

The North Texas Municipal Water District kicked off its exciting new program that brings science and sports together to teach kids about the importance of water conservation. Working with the Texas Legends, an NBA G League team based in Frisco, NTMWD hosted its first free STEM Basketball Clinic at the Wylie Recreation Center. About thirty kids participated in the water-themed basketball clinic where they learned about the One Water message while also picking up basketball skills and techniques.

NTMWD Public Education Manager Helen Dulac was at the clinic along with three coaches from the Texas Legends and their Manager of Operations & Community, Brook Gladney. Developed to be a two-hour event for kids aged six to fourteen, the kids gained a new insight into how STEM plays a role in basketball, learned the fundamentals of basketball, participated in interactive activities, and competed in basketball drills. And they did it all while having fun and talking about the vital role water plays in our everyday lives!

All participants received NTMWD information and a water bottle, and families got vouchers to attend a future Texas Legends game for free.

NTMWD will be hosting a limited number of these free water-themed STEM clinics in select cities, so make sure to check your city’s parks and recreation department for a date and time near you. The next clinic is scheduled for March 30 in Plano.
